2021
In February 2021, I was the lead designer of the 55 Yonge website. I worked alongside a project manager and a developer and was responsible for developing the project branding, designing the overall layout of the site as well as the style of animations to be applied to the finished product. I played a lead role throughout the entire process from start to finish.
Overview
55 Yonge is a rental apartment that is set to be built in Downtown Toronto. The purpose of this project was to create a website that would highlight the development plans, the vision of the building, give an idea of what the design will be like, and answer any FAQ questions. The client wanted everything to be condensed to one transparent website with the intention of presenting the project to the City of Toronto.
Objective
Design a full comprehensive one-pager website. Develop brand guidelines and select corresponding colours and fonts based on the provided building renderings.
Ideation
I first started by generating a variety of style guides to test how various colours and fonts would look alongside the project renderings. This helped to come up with an overall theme and get an idea of how we wanted the site to be visualized.
Wireframes
After testing different font and colour combinations, the team decided to move forward with the light airy colours from the fourth style guide sample. We wanted the overall look to feel elegant and contemporary. I continued to play with different font pairings as I built different sections of the site.
Below are some samples of early drafts of sections from the site.
First Iteration
I finalized the layout and visual design. We sent this mockup to the client for feedback. The client liked the overall layout but wanted a few adjustments. Based on their feedback, I brightened the colours, updated the font used for the copy, changed the button style and also applied a different rendering to the landing.
Final Design
After applying the updates, the client was very pleased with the overall layout and design. The site was launched in March and the project was featured in The Globe and Mail, Canadian Architect, The Architect's Newspaper, Archinect News, and Designboom.
